Phone and laptop microphones apply automatic gain, so readings are an estimate (±5–10 dB). For legal or workplace measurements use a certified meter.

How to use the sound level meter
- Click Start and allow microphone access.
- Watch the live decibel reading, level description and history graph.
- Use the calibration offset if you can compare with a real sound meter.
Check how loud your street, office, nursery, gym or neighbours are, or test a room before recording a podcast. Long exposure above 85 dB can damage hearing, which is why the scale turns orange and red there. The audio is analysed in real time inside your browser and is never recorded or uploaded.
