How to use the background remover

  2. The AI separates the person from the background in a few seconds (the model downloads once).
  3. Keep it transparent, pick a colour or blur the original background, fine-tune the edges and download a PNG.

Make profile pictures, CV and passport-style photos with a plain background, product shots of yourself for social media, or cut-outs for presentations. The MODNet portrait-matting model runs locally with WebGPU or WebAssembly, so your photos are never uploaded. For objects and products results vary — the model is trained on people.

Is it really free and private?

Yes. The model file is downloaded from Hugging Face once and cached; all processing happens on your device.

Why are some edges rough?

Use Edge softness and Cut-off to refine hair and shadows. Very busy backgrounds or low-light photos are harder for the AI.
