How to use the gzip compressor and extractor

  2. Normal files are compressed to .gz; files that already are GZIP (.gz, .tgz) are extracted.
  3. The results download automatically.

GZIP is the standard compression on Linux servers, in web hosting backups, log rotation and many downloads. This tool uses your browser’s native compression streams, so it is fast and needs no extra software. A .tar.gz or .tgz file becomes a .tar archive after extraction. To pack several files into one archive, use Create ZIP instead.
