How to use the electricity cost calculator

  1. Pick a typical appliance or enter the wattage from its label (1 kW = 1000 W).
  2. Set how many hours a day and days a week you use it, and your unit price from your electricity bill.
  3. See the cost per hour, day, week, month and year.

The price per kWh is on your bill — in Ireland it is often 30–45 cent including VAT, cheaper at night on smart tariffs. Heating water and rooms (showers, immersions, heaters) costs the most; chargers and LED bulbs cost very little. Typical appliance figures are averages — check the label for yours.
