How to use the chmod calculator
- Tick read, write and execute for the owner, group and others.
- Or type a number like 644 or 755.
- Copy the ready chmod command.
Common values: 644 for normal files (owner can edit, everyone can read), 755 for folders and scripts, 600 for private keys and config files with passwords. Avoid 777 on web servers — it lets any user change the file.
